JOB TITLE:    Library Technician

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Serves at the circulation desk: registering new users, explaining circulation and library use policies, acting as an agent for the replacement of lost/damaged materials, reserves materials, and clears rotating personnel.

Performs limited `ready reference' by answering factual questions involving the use of selected basic reference sources such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs, on-line databases and internet.  Assists patrons in using on-line catalog, Microsoft Office Programs, on-line databases and the Internet. Processes interlibrary loan requests.

Assist customers with questions in reference to online library resources, makerspace equipment and library programming.

Presents Library events and programs including, but not limited to book clubs, children's Storytime, craft programs, technological instruction, and other programs based on the interests and needs of the Library community. Programs frequently require the incumbent read selected book club books, study of technology for instruction, or even prepare songs or dances for public performance in the case of children's programs.

Shelves returned and new materials following the guidelines of the Semper FindIt System. Shelves magazine and newspapers. Reads shelf where book belongs, rearranging shelves if necessary to prevent overcrowding.

Responsible for the operation and upkeep of makerspace equipment, making recommendations for the procurement of new equipment and collecting and reporting metrics on the usage of the makerspace.

Compiles daily and monthly statistics, and submits reports regularly.

Responsible for opening and closing routines of the facility.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts higher level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness and /or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old AND have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school.
    (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.)
  2. Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  3. Must be able to perform prolonged standing, walking, reaching, pushing loaded book truck, and frequent light to moderate lifting up to 40 lbs independently.
  4. Must be able to travel to other camps to fill in temporary staff shortages.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Previous customer service experience; library experience preferred.
  2. Knowledge and experience in clerical and administrative procedures such as managing files and records, compiling statistics, to include good organizational skills.
  3. Have a strong command of English language to include written and oral skills.
  4. Knowledge in Microsoft Programs to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  5. Demonstrated excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse customers.
  6. Knowledge in any makerspace technology domain to include: 3D printing, graphic design, virtual reality, embedded systems, coding, robotics, digital music production, video editing, or digital animation.
