The primary purpose of this position, IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) GS-2210-11, is to serve as a senior systems administrator, with the responsibility for planning, installation, testing, cyber policy implementation, modifying, upgrading, operation, troubleshooting, and sustainment of hardware and software systems.
  • Perform services as a senior systems administrator.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to users and other IT specialists.
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to management.
  • Maintain liaison with manufacturers, professional organizations, and counterparts at other installations and services regarding available products and state-of-the-art technologies and advancements.
In order to qualify, you must meet the Specialized experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-2210, Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A) Series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND have 1 year, or within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement will have, at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-11), level, pay band (NH-02), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc). An example of creditable specialized experience is described as: assists with integrating information system components by planning, coordinating and administering computer systems; install software, hardware , and applications programs; troubleshoot problems and complete administrative functions; and/or aid with installation of system patches and enhancements/updates.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance.
2. Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system.
3. Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.
4. Knowledge of operating systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers.
5. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems, provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual lifting, walking, bending or other demands.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions.

Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as either a paramount or incidental duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.

This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
