INTRODUCTION: This position is located in the Retail Operations Section of the Business Operations Branch, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), Camp S.D. Butler, Okinawa, Japan. The primary purpose of this position is to perform administrative and clerical duties in support of Tours Plus.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
As a Tour Coordinator, performs a variety of duties to support a comprehensive and versatile information, tickets, and tour program for military personnel, DOD Civilians, and their dependents. Work includes gathering and packaging information, assisting customers with international and domestic tour reservations, providing information, obtaining, and selling tickets, collecting fees, dealing with complaints from patrons with tact and diplomacy.
Attempts to secure tickets for tours at competitive rates. Coordinates package/tour development with local travel agencies, local and international resort representatives. Conducts surveys to determine program offerings.
Builds strong business relationships with local and international resorts.
Packages and presents information about Tours Plus to units at Newcomer Orientations, briefings, club functions, etc. Aids in coordinating and operating the Tours Plus booth at all major festivals and special events.
Makes recommendations for improvements in Tours Plus program, facility operations, policies, etc. Prepares reports to evaluate the success or shortcomings of program offerings.
Establishes and maintains a database of island-wide and international tours information for easy retrieval and reference.
Serves as Tour Leader when needed and must be able to accommodate flexible work schedule to include weekends, holidays and nighttime, and oversea traveling (maximum of 14 days).
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles, and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years old AND have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school.
(Valid documentation will be required upon hire.) - Must be able to accommodate flexible work schedule to include weekends and holidays.
- Skills and knowledge in Microsoft Programs such as Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Possess excellent customer service, interpersonal skills, tact, and problem-solving abilities, a team player and actively looking for ways to help people.
- Must be able to perform prolonged standing, walking, reaching, and lifting of objects weighing light to moderate independently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to conduct briefings and/or conduct tours as required.
- Knowledge of fundamental business principles to develop tour packages that are not cost prohibitive and marketing/tour promotion principles in order to obtain maximum program participation and acceptance.
- Knowledge of local and international points of interest and up-to-date attractions and ability to spot opportunities for program growth and act on them.
- Knowledge and experience in public relations and the relationship of the military and local civilian community.
- Knowledge and experience of working in tourism industry, such as packaging domestic and international tours and verifying travel arrangements for tour groups, conducting tour leader services (Preferred).
- A strong background in public speaking.
- Must be able to possess CPR certification.
- Must be able to work at other Tours Plus locations as required.
- A valid Government Owned Vehicle (GOV) operator¿s permit may be requested for this position at the supervisor¿s discretion. If the supervisor determines that this position requires a GOV, the incumbent is required to obtain the license. Inability to obtain or maintain the appropriate licenses may result in disciplinary action.
- Ability to communicate in Japanese both orally and in writing is highly desirable. (other language abilities also preferred).
