Overview

U.S. Naval Dental Center , Okinawa Japan is looking for a Dental Laboratory Technician to provide dental services and support for military personal and their families.

 

Schedule:  40 hours per week,

Monday –Friday between the hours of 0700 and 1600.

Responsibilities

? The health care worker shall perform a full range of dental laboratory duties, within the
scope of this statement of work, on site using government furnished supplies, facilities,
and equipment within the assigned unit of the Dental Treatment Facility. Workload
occurs because of scheduled and unscheduled requirements for care. The health care
worker’s actual laboratory performance will be a function of the overall demand for
dental laboratory services.
? The health care worker shall be subject to guidelines set forth in the Command’s quality
assurance and risk management instructions. The health care worker shall perform
administrative duties which include maintaining statistical records of Contractor HCW’S
laboratory workload, participating in dental education programs, ordering documentation
for boards, and participating in laboratory staff quality assurance functions at the
prerogative of the Commanding Officer.
? The work environment involves risks typically associated with the performance of dental
laboratory procedures. Contractor HCW may be exposed to contagious disease, infections
and flying dental debris requiring the Contractor HCW wear protection such as sterile
gloves, masks, and eyeglasses.
? The health care worker shall be responsible for a full range of dental laboratory
procedures in support of dental officer within personnel and equipment capabilities and
limitations of the Dental Treatment Facility.
? The health care worker’s laboratory activity will be function of the overall demand for
dental laboratory services. The health care worker’s productivity is expected to be

comparable to that of other dental laboratory technicians assigned to the same facility and
authorized one same scope of practice. The health care worker shall: 

 

o Serves as a technical adviser in fixed, implant, and removable prostheses
laboratory technologies to the ADL Officer.
o Assists in trouble shooting and problem solving in the areas of fixed, implant, and
removable prostheses design, fabrication, and/or the evaluation of the material
used as well as the final product.
o Provides and documents individual and group training, at least quarterly, to
enlisted dental technicians, civilians, and dental officers in the areas of fixed,
implant and removable prostheses laboratory technologies.
o Consults with supervisors monthly and provides verbal/written feedback and
recommendations on the professional development of senior and junior personnel
in laboratory education and training.
o Directly advises enlisted personnel and civilians in fixed and removable
prosthodontic laboratory technologies.
o Utilizes current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and
Department of Defense (DOD) guidelines in the selection and use of appropriate
disinfecting agents for dental materials and prostheses.
o Disinfects impressions, casts and other dental materials used to fabricate dental
prostheses.
o Separates and trims casts according to prescription guidelines.
o Checks in cases received from outside sources via an electronic log/tracking
system.
o Utilizes simple, semi-adjustable, and fully adjustable articulators in the
fabrication of dental prostheses.
o Transfers maxillo-mandibular records, including pantographic tracings to all
classes of articulators.
o Fabricates custom trays, record bases, record rims, surgical guides, surgical
splints, temporary splints, night guards and mouthguards.
o Appropriately designs and waxes single unit and multiple units fixed partial
denture substructures for full metal or porcelain application and function.

o Fabricates veneers and other all ceramic restorations using pressed and milled
ceramic materials.
o Invests, casts and solders single unit crowns, as well as simple and complex fixed
partial dentures.
o Incorporates precision occlusal morphologies and occlusal schemes on individual
and multiple fixed units in porcelain or in dental alloys.
o Utilizes applicable laboratory hardware, dental materials, and techniques in the
fabrication of precision attachment cases and implant restorations.
o Utilizes appropriate metal alloys for porcelain applications and to soldering
procedures.
o Contours precious, semiprecious, and nonprecious alloys, and porcelain to
esthetically replicate natural tooth morphology.
o Fabricates complex esthetic intraoral fixed dental prosthesis to include single
units, multiple units, and units in combination with removable partial dentures,
complete dentures and/or implant fixtures.
o Utilizes surveying/milling instruments to fabricate customized surveyed crowns
and fixed partial dentures.
o Processes and finishes repairs, rebases, and/or relines of complete and removable
partial dentures.
o Ensures Familiarity with a variety of shade guides, to include digital guides, and
can stack and/or stain porcelain to match an indicated shade.
o Demonstrates ability to select an appropriate denture tooth mold and shade to
correspond with desired or remaining dentition
o Sets anatomic and nonanatomic denture teeth to desired occlusal scheme
including non-balanced, balanced articulation with lingualized, crossbite, or
cross-tooth-cross-arch set-ups in complete dentures and removable partial
dentures.
o Performs all phases of removable partial denture and complete denture acrylic
processing to include the surveying, block-out, waxing, investing, boiling-out, and
processing with acrylic resin using compression and injection systems.
o Po Surveys, blocks-out and duplicates casts for removable partial dentures in
conjunction with surveyed crowns.
o Dips and transfers removable partial denture design from a master cast.
o Utilizes precision attachments to fabricate complex removable cases when
prescribed by a dentist.
o Performs all phases of removable partial denture framework fabrication to include
waxing, investing, burning- out, and casting using various investment products
and the Ticomatic, Mod 4 and Bego casting units.
o Divests, sandblasts, electropolishes, finishes, and polishes removable partial
denture frameworks to ensure proper fit on duplicate and master casts.
o Waxes, invests, boils-out, packs and processes complete dentures, removable
partial dentures, and implant cases ready to be processed with acrylic.
o Fabricates complex esthetic intraoral removable dental prosthesis to include
combination removable partial denture and fixed partial dentures prostheses,
complete dentures, and implant supported removable prostheses.
o Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by the laboratory Petty Officer,
laboratory Chief, and/or laboratory Officer. erforms laboratory remounts and adjusts occlusion.

 

Qualifications

• Degree: Associates Degree or Certificate depending on the program – or - Certificate
from Army, Air Force, or Navy Dental Laboratory Training (METC), or evidence of 2 or
more years as a lab technician accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a
licensed dentist or previous dental laboratory employer.
• Education: Successful completion of a 2-year program of study and training in dental lab
techniques approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the
American Dental Association (ADA) – or – High School diploma if certified through an
Army, Air Force, or Navy Dental Laboratory Training (METC) program.
• Experience: Shall have at least two years dental laboratory experience in the section for
which they are applying. Dental Laboratory Sections include General Laboratory,
Removable Prosthodontics, Porcelain application (ceramist), Prosthesis finishing (metal
and ceramic), and CAD-CAM (Computer Assisted Design/Computer Assisted
Manufacturing) Design and Milling
