INTRODUCTION: Community Services (MCCS) Division of Marine Corps Base, Camp Butler.  The purpose of this position is to serve as a creditable source and advisor to the Health Promotion Wellness Director as well as provide Health and Wellness services across MCB Butler.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Conducts comprehensive health screenings that include: height; weight; cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure measurements; body composition assessment; health risk appraisals; cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, and strength testing.  Provides health-related training and education to service members, family members, retirees, MCCS employees and other authorized patrons through scheduled training classes, seminars, clinics, and other community events.  The incumbent functions as a resource for questions and concerns pertaining to health and fitness.  Aids in and works closely with the U.S. Naval Hospital, American Red Cross, and other agencies to promote health and fitness activities.

Provides educational briefs, classes, health fairs, and one-on-one consultations to patrons seeking health, wellness, and/or generalized nutrition counseling in order to enhance overall human performance, maintain mission readiness, disease prevention, and support healthy lifestyles.

Maintains patron usage data reports.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy.  Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact.  Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems.  Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.  

Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.  

Performs other related duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Knowledge of the basic principles of health and wellness through a four-year undergraduate program in an accredited college or university.  Degree  must be in one of the following fields: Public Health (2) Health Promotion (3) Health Education (4) School of Health (5) Community Health (6) Dietetics (7) Food and Nutrition (8) Nutrition Sciences (9) Community Nutrition (10) Public Health Nutrition (11) Human Nutrition (12) Exercise Science (13) Exercise Physiology (14) Kinesiology (15) Human Performance (16) Nursing.
  2. Minimum one year of experience in public health field that demonstrated the ability to apply the principle of said field.
  3. Shall possess or be eligible to take one of the following certifications within 6 months of hire: (1) Certified Health Education Specialist (NCHEC) (2) or the Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist (ACSM)
  4. Experience in teaching subject matters related to Health and Wellness.  
  5. Currently certified in First Aid, CPR, AED, or be certified upon hire.
  6. Must be able to obtain a Tobacco Cessation Facilitator certification within 6 months of hire.
  7. Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (Tier 1) with Childcare background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to conduct clinics and seminars in specialty areas of health, wellness and fitness to include nutrition, behavior modification, exercise, and other lifestyle strategies.
  2. Knowledge of health-related equipment and programs.  Experience in computer health and fitness systems and software programs.
  3. Knowledgeable in the operation of ordinary office equipment such as computers, copy machines, and computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.
  4. Familiar and knowledgeable in the operation of health-related equipment such as cholesterol, blood glucose, and blood pressure monitoring devices, bio-impedance body composition analyzer, and heart monitors.
  5. Ability to articulate effectively both orally and in writing.
