Description About the position: This position is located at the Karing Kennels on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan.
Assists the kennel manager in overseeing day-to-day operations. Assists with oversight and training for personnel in handling boarding agreements, grooming appointments, sales transactions, stray animal logs, owner turn-in and adoption administration requirements. Assists the manager in performing daily spot pet boarding and facility inspections ensuring that staff complies with established American Boarding Kennel Association accreditation and Public Health sanitation standards. Identifies cleaning and care deficiencies and develops corrective action for management review. Assist with observation of animals for obvious diseases, changes in behavior or activity, and administers medications as directed. Reviews boarding agreements, reservation database, and waiting list making necessary adjustments to maximize space utilization. Ensures staff properly informs interested parties in the Owner Turn-in and Adoption programs to include fiscal, medical, legal, and ownership requirements. Assists customers claiming lost animals and informs the owners of wing policies regarding "captured" pets to include fees and additional actions for recurring
captures. Maintains pet adoption log to include upkeep of administrative requirements and forms, and assists with community pet adoption/animal awareness programs by coordinating dates and times with staff for programs. Coordinates disposition of animals with the US Army Veterinary Clinic. Determines and purchases supplies needed to accomplish the kennel mission. Conducts inventories and insures adequate pet care supplies are available. Assists the manager with inventory of retail items, and identifies slow-moving and sold out items for appropriate action. Reviews all boarding agreements in order to develop an efficient work schedule. Performs other duties as assigned. Works under the supervision of the kennel manager.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Applicant must have progressive adminstrative experience with knowledge of kennel operation and retail operation such as; pet boarding, pet adoption, animal control, retail management and purchasing. Must possess experience in cash handling procedures and sales operations such as; receipt, refund, deposit and safe guarding of funds. Must have experience which demonstrates ability to provide work direction to NF-I Recreation Aid(s) and knowledge of safety regulations. Must be able to communicate with customers and possess skill in dealing with customer complaints. Must be able to work a variable work schedule to include possibly reporting to work before and after typhoons. RecTrac system experience is preferred but not required. Microsoft Office Word, Outlook and Excel software experience is preferred but not required.Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.
