Description About the position: This position is located at the Marketing Office on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan.Responsible for curating fresh, relevant, and informative content. Composes, writes and edits various news articles, feature stories, press releases and program overviews for publication in newspapers, magazines, newsletters, brochures, advertisements, promotional campaigns, and other internal and external print and digital publications. Rewrites and edits materials written by others and ensures compliance with established editorial guidelines such as the Associated Press Stylebook. Ensures sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and flow of readability are within journalistic standards and comply with established guidelines. Coordinates with marketing staff for the timely submission of pertinent articles and program or event information for publication. Serves as the editor for the squadron's periodical publications. Ensures all internal and external advertising and marketing media is accurate and clearly depicts editorial standards and quality of squadron. Plans, implements, and manages the squadron monthly publication editorial content which best represent the quality of people and programs to achieve the desired impact of increased participation and profitability. Plans and manages the squadron monthly and/or periodical publications to assure all project-related deadlines are met. Coordinates with the Art Director and Marketing Director for the illustrations and visual design for the squadron monthly publication and marketing media. Adapts and writes news stories for the use of Armed Forces Network (radio and television), Air Force Services Center (AFSVC), and the squadron digital media (e.g., website, digital monthly publication). Submits edited text to on and off base publications. Meets internal and external deadlines to ensure successful implementation of promotional campaigns. Serves as the Unit Public Affairs Representative. Performs other duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Applicants must have extensive journalism experience which demonstrates the skills, knowledge and ability to successfully perform the duties of the position to include basic knowledge of print production processing, editing practices, Associated Press style, feature writing and editing. Bachelor's degree in journalism or English desired. Strong writing and proofreading skills with great attention to detail. Must be proficient in Mac and PC platforms and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Acrobat is desired.Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.
